Press Release
Many motor racing drivers have started their careers in go-karts before
moving onto other classes of motor sport and that is where Michael
Harders gained experience before moving into Speedcar racing in 1998.
His ambition to race speedcars grew from watching them race from a young
age.
His ambition for the current season is to do well at the coming
Australian Speedcar championship to be held at Charlton Raceway in
Toowoomba on 26 and 27 January. Over fifty competitors are expected
including all of the top drivers from around Australia and Harders says
it will be a good opportunity for him to test his skills against the
best.
‘I have done little racing in the last twelve months but I am really
looking forward to the title. I can learn a lot by racing at this level
of competition and the experience will be a huge benefit to me in my
racing career’, the quietly spoken Springfield resident said.
He has enjoyed some success with a number of main event wins and season
trophy awards. However an accident eighteen months ago nearly brought
his racing career to an end.
The rear axle broke sending his car into a series of bone crunching roll
overs. He sustained a badly broken collarbone which required surgery to
repair and then a year out of racing to recuperate.
Whilst on the sideline, Harders’ car owner Terry Holland built a new car
using an American chassis and fitted an Isuzu V6 engine. This is an
unconventional engine for speedcar racing but initial meetings have
indicated that it has a lot of potential and Harders believes that with
a little more development the car will be very competitive.
Speedway is a family affair with the Harders Family. His Father, Peter,
also races speedcars whilst his uncle owns a couple of race cars.
Michael’s wife came from a speedway family, as well, with her father
racing sedan cars.
Harders also works in the racing industry as QLD State Manager of Revolution Racegear who distribute a range of safety apparel
and equipment for all forms of motorsport.
Harders long term ambition is to do some racing in America and if
determination counts for anything that is a distinct possibility in the
next few years.
